Shared Soft Lithography Facility

The Shared Soft Lithography facility, located on the ground floor of the AMPEL building, provides access to a suite of tools for the fabrication of polymeric devices. It is a facility that serves UBC and the broader research community, for users working in microfabrication, nanofabrication, MEMS, microfluidics, sensors, actuators, soft robotics, among other fields.

Some major tools in this facility include:

  • Planetary centrifugal mixer for high viscosity materials
  • Plasma chamber for surface activation
  • Spin coater, to dispense liquid onto substrate and spinning to achieve a uniform film
  • Hot embossing press for thermoplastic materials
  • Curing ovens
  • Vacuum dessicators for sample de-gassing

The facility is used by research groups from the Faculties of Applied Science, Science, and Medicine.
